Community Resources for Independence

Community Resources for Independence (CRI) is a community based, non-residential, non-profit corporation that provides services to individuals with disabilities in order to maximize their independence and the accessibility of the communities in which they live. CRI is one of more than 500 federally funded Centers for Independent Living across the nation, established by people with disabilities for people with disabilities.

CRI’s professionally trained staff, many of whom have disabilities themselves, provide services, peer support, and referrals to existing community resources.

Community Resources for Independence, Inc. is committed to preserve, enhance, and enrich the quality of life for all people with disabilities. They directly provide or coordinate through referral, those services which help people to increase their abilities to exercise control over their lives thus minimizing their reliance on others to make decisions and to perform every day activities.  Through both individual and systems advocacy, CRI seeks to eliminate societies’ attitudinal, environmental, social, psychological and economical barriers to equal opportunities. To the greatest extent possible, the services and activities of CRI are peer conducted; as it is strongly held that people with disabilities who have personally experienced attitudinal, physical, and communication barriers are best able to assist persons with disabilities achieve lives with dignity.
